James McConnell Anderson

(1907-1998)

“Mac”, like his older brother Walter, was both a multi-talented artist and a pottery decorator for the family business. Similarly, he had a lifelong interest in nature and outdoor activities, which are reflected in his art. He worked at the Pottery from 1930, creating unique models, such as the Baseball figures, and his trademark fish and New Orleans city scenes in pottery design. His style is distinctive, controlled and often given to flattened two-dimensional form. His unique stylization lent itself to large mural commissions in both tile and oil from the 1930’s-1960’s, His art celebrates the everyday with a strong command of line and exuberant color.
