JULY SHOW: The Drysdale in Your Attic
Alexander J. Drysdale (1870-1934) is Louisiana's most famous and recognizable landscape painter. His atmospheric scenes of Live Oak and Cypress Bayou are unique both technically and artistically. To produce the distinctive hazy effect, he developed an oil wash technique in which the paint was thinned with kerosene. In a rapid loose style, he used both brush and cotton ball to achieve the misty effect so prized by his collectors. |

MIKE RYON, Absinthe Green to Zinnia Yellow, The Colors of New Orleans
With a bravura handing of color and a vivacious brushstroke, Ryon infuses the favorite scenes of New Orleans with new vigor. Ryon is well-established in North Carolina, but spent time in New Orleans, a source of artistic inspiration. He studied architecture at North Carolina State University and art at the Ringling School of Art in Florida. |
