Derenda Keating

A native of southern Louisiana, she studied art at the University of Northeastern Louisiana in Monroe and has trained under some of America’s finest contemporary artists: Judy Crowe, Bill Kalwick, Kevin Macpherson, Robert Moore and Ron Rencher. Her work has received numerous awards in juried art competitions and show in prestigious art galleries from coast to coast. She characterizes her style as loose realism, emphasizing the values of sunlight and shadow. Her art is based on plein-air studies to capture the subtleties of the direct and reflected light, followed by studio work that incorporates these studies and photographs taken on location. More recently, she has begun experimenting with the effects of palette knife, which imparts a rich tactile quality to the canvas and enhances the vivacious application of paint.
